The interviewer and interpreter were stunned on several occassions when they discovered that Peiper spoke perfect English; after they had exchanged remarks about his possible participation in the Malmedy incident. They were left with thier jaws hanging open for a full half-minute when Peiper corrected the interpreter.

This account of Hitler's Escort Brigade saw extensive action during the early fighting around Saint Vith. The Escort Brigade had direct orders by General Manteuffel to assist in capturing St. Vith during the first few days of the offensive, but General Remer ignored those orders and bypassed the village. Battalion of the Panzer Regiment 115 disappeared altogether since 25 December 1944.
